An interactive Web XR  theatre teaching aid for lockdown

After hearing about the plight of secondary school drama and performing arts teachers during lockdown, Bright Immersive’s Ben Wilson created a WebVR theatre, which they could use to boost engagement with remote lessons.
 

To maximise accessibility, Ben designed the WebVR theatre to older smartphones and in in VR viewers, rather than the latest VR headsets.
 

Visitors had the chance to explore the auditorium and backstage by clicking on info panels with definitions and key facts aligned to the syllabus. They could also change the on-stage lighting and raise and lower the main curtain.
 

In it’s first month of going live, the WebVR theatre received more than 5,000 views and enjoyed dwell times of around 12 minutes, which was considerably longer than you might expect for a traditional flat webpage.
